cover23108-mediumSubject: Ranger Eli Weston

Current Status: On leave

Mission: To honor his fallen friend—and protect his secret

Obstacle: His fallen friend’s ex, who’s off-limits…and off-the-charts sexy!

Ranger Eli Weston always does the right thing—even when it means defying orders. Now he’s back in town to help with a memorial in honor of his fallen military buddy. This time it’s not just about what’s right. It’s about ensuring that a secret never comes to light. A secret that only he and his friend’s ex-girlfriend know…

Clothing designer Shelby Monroe has always felt an illicit something for Eli. But when the two find themselves working together to ensure the media never discover the truth about the town’s fallen hero, temptation unfurls…hot, wicked and irresistible. How far can they bend the rules before they break?

Recently returned from Afghanistan, Eli is struggling with keeping the secret of what happened to his best friend Micah. That opening was so heartbreaking, especially not knowing at the time Micah’s motivation was.

Eli’s decision to keep his friend’s suicide a secret to protect Micah’s family & reputation must have been such a heavy burden on him. You can see how it weighs on him when he returns to help with the memorial to his friend – trying to keep this secret from the family. He doesn’t realise Shelby, Micah’s ex, knows what the truth is. Shelby has been receiving threatening letters blaming her for Micah’s death. She goes to him asking for help to find the person who has been sending the letters.

Now these two are definitely hot for each other – that was easy to see. However Eli stays clear out of loyalty to his friend and Shelby believes Eli blames her for Micah’s suicide. They had once shared a forbidden kiss, the attraction between them having bubbled away under the surface since they met. The kiss was what made Shelby realise that she wasn’t going to be able to make it work with Micah. I liked that she acknowledged that she still loved him, just not the way she should.

When Eli and Shelby finally do have the sexytimes in that cabin, woah! Very hot! Now that’s what I expect from my Blaze books.

When it comes to the letter writer, I really like how Eli draws the confession from them. He lets them twist in the wind a bit first before confronting them, rather than going in all guns blazing. This makes sense when you know who the person is.

That Katrina was a nasty pastie! I just kept waiting for her to get her comeuppance (and it was fantastic when she did). A big highlight for me from this book was Mavis, Shelby’s employee. A middle-aged post-menopausal woman with an overactive libido thanks to HRT, she was just a classic. Everyone needs a Mavis on their side – she is awesome and how she stands up for those she loves, bravo!

I really enjoyed this book, but particularly I loved the characters. Well done, Ms Nelson.
