When Honey Got Married, an Entangled Indulgence anthology: Review

May 8, 2013 Reviews 4

HoneyCoverFour high school friends and a high society bride reunite to celebrate the wedding of the year with the sexy, successful men who steal their hearts and set their skin aflame…

A wedding planner should never mix business and pleasure, but Grace couldn’t resist breaking rule number one for a hot night with her high school crush!

Eve hoped to make one last play for the groom-who-got-away…but instead the down-on-her-romantic-luck actress instead found herself in dark corners with his successful, seductive cousin.

The sister of the bride needed a date of convenience and who better than her hazel-eyed, mysterious co-worker? If only Nina could keep her hands off his perfect body until she learned his true identity…

The groom proposed to her eight years earlier, but it was the steamy kiss that Pippa shared with his brother the night she left town that haunted her memories. Now she’s back and sharing much more than just kisses.

Nothing was going to ruin Honey’s wedding to the man of her dreams. And she has just the wedding surprise for her beloved groom!

This was one of those rare animals for me – an anthology where there was no weak link. Each and every one of the stories in When Honey Got Married… could have stood happily on their own as a wonderful book. Together, they create a perfect mixture of awesome. I love the setting: a lush plantation in the heart of the Deep South. It makes me want to fan myself and drink sweet tea and mint juleps. The storylines were woven in and out of each other seamlessly. And being an Aussie girl myself, I am super delighted that some of my favourite Australian authors had a hand in creating it (Kimberly Lang, I’m not forgetting you – you too are awesome).

Now, for my thoughts on each story:

Grace Felt The Heat by Kimberly Lang

Grace has made a concerted effort to rid herself of the memories of life in Bellefleur as the poor & ignored Gracie Lee. However, when the original wedding planner samples the groom from another wedding, she is dragged back into the world she so wanted to leave. When she comes face-to-face with Beau, her former high-school crush, Grace sees a chance to have some ‘fun’ at his expense as payback for his public humiliation of her in high school. But when things get pretty hot between them, Grace realizes she’s gone cold on the idea of revenge.

I loved these two together. The scene at Grace’s house where Beau cooks for her and they dance and…. Well, that was just gorgeous! Grace, bless her cotton socks, has spent so long holding onto past grudges that she almost misses out on her HEA. I love how when Grace realizes this, she doesn’t huff and puff about it – she just goes after what she wants.

Eve Met Her Match by Anna Cleary

Eve rocks up to the wedding, hoping to convince the groom that they were meant to be together. She believes she is in love with him, and since a kiss they had shared, her feelings became more intense. Rainer, the groom’s cousin, agrees to help her get her plan into action. But little does Eve realise, Rainer has an ulterior motive. Ooh, Rainer. Hotter than a box of flaming firecrackers. That scene…..woah! (when you read it, you will know what I’m talking about). Eve, you lucky girl.

Anna Cleary has done a fantastic job creating a couple who positively crackle with electricity when they’re anywhere near each other. What I loved about Eve and Rainer as a couple was that they almost said more with the way they looked at each other than with physical contact (and they did say plenty that way too).

Nina Tempted The Lord by Kelly Hunter

Nina, Honey’s sister, is only back in Bellefleur because of the wedding. After she left home to become part of the Night Circus at 17, she all but severed ties with the town – and her relationship with her parents has been at a standstill ever since. For moral support, she brings along her friend and colleague Alexander. Their platonic relationship quickly becomes something more while on the way to Bellefleur. Alex has been carrying a major torch for Nina since they met. Nina wants Alex, but is too scared of losing anyone else in her life, so she has tried to avoid going down that path with him – until the road trip.

I’d have to agree with a few people on this that Alex has that whole sexy Mr Darcy vibe going on (minus the surliness of course). He won me over when he stood up to Nina’s father – that was awesome. His encouragement and support of Nina was just…sigh! Bravo, Ms Hunter, for writing this gorgeous man.

Pippa Bared All by Ally Blake

Pippa was the groom’s first love, but she legged it from Bellefleur after he proposed to her. Now she’s back and all she wants to do is to make amends for her sudden departure all those years ago. With her being the groom’s ex and all, people jump to their own conclusions and she’s now apparently there to bust up the happy couple and cause havoc. When she latches on to someone to throw the gossips off the scent, she could not have been more surprised as to who it was – the groom’s brother, Griff. They shared a hot kiss just after the breakup, and it soon becomes clear the attraction that was there 10 years ago is still flaming out of control.

This was probably my favourite of the four. I love how their back story is shown in flashbacks – the scene where they kiss was just gorgeous. You could sense Griff wanted to ask her to stay, but couldn’t. My heart broke just a little then.

and Honey Lived Happily Ever After by Ally Blake

This was a lovely way to tie up the anthology – we finally get to see the real Honey, and we also meet Brent for the first time. When you’ve driven yourself crazy organising your wedding (let’s face it, Honey went right to the edge of crazy town with this one), that quiet moment in the car when you are first alone with your husband can lead to the nerves escaping. Throughout the four stories, Honey is constantly second-guessing herself and worrying about whether Brent is marrying her for the reason she hopes – love. So it was wonderful to see Honey getting her worries assuaged – and how it happens…..very sexy, Ms Blake! Very sexy.
