Hayden Summers just landed the job of a lifetime taking pictures for Time magazine, but she’s determined to leave with no regrets. The first thing on her list? Erase the memory of her cheating ex with a wild night of anonymous sex. The second? Figure out why her best friend, sexy bar owner Jace Jennings, stopped speaking to her the night she told him about the job.
Jace has a problem. Hayden isn’t just leaving the country, she’s risking her life—just when he’s realized he’s in love with her. When fate traps them in the storage room of his bar together, barely contained desire simmers to surface. In one last attempt to keep her, Jace offers Hayden the one thing she wants: a night of hot sex, no strings attached. But when the night is over, will Jace be able to let her go? And will Hayden leave with her heart intact?
Brazen, the nice’n’spicy line from Entangled Publishing, has been providing me with some excellent reads of late. No Strings Attached was no exception to this rule. This is a novella, and as you would expect, it is a pretty quick read. However, it was one of those lovely and unusual novellas, in that it didn’t feel as if it was being rushed to the finish line. It would have been great as a full-length story, but at novella-length, it was still really great.
No Strings Attached was hot and sexy, and packed a lot of heat and emotion into its 62 pages. Friends for many years, both Hayden and Jace have some unrequited feelings for each other. Hayden, fresh from a broken relationship (her ex-fiance is now working his way through her family tree), is breaking free and following her dream of being a photographer for TIME Magazine. Her assignment will take her to the Sudan, and Jace is most definitely not happy about it.
Hayden is up for one last hot hookup before she leaves, and instead of the guy she thinks she’s arranged to “meet” in the storage room at Jace’s club, she ends up by surprise in Jace’s arms.
The chemistry between Hayden and Jace is fantastic. It pulses from them like waves of electricity. I loved the line in the book once Jace has convinced Hayden that he is the one for the job:
Oh, God…she was lost, and she never wanted to find her way back.
This just spoke volumes as to the depth of their connection and feelings for each other. The ending, while a little improbable, was super-sweet and topped of a wonderful novella.
I loved the hints that this story leaves as to the possibility of future stories involving the hot Jennings men, with particular reference to Jace’s ex-soldier brother, Nate. I would love to read his story.
