Italian Affair: An Audience with the Author, Annie Seaton

June 18, 2013 Reviews 0

I am very excited today to have the author of Italian Affair, Annie Seaton here at My Written Romance. Italian Affair is the second in Annie’s Affair series. You can read my review here. The first, Holiday Affair was released in March 2012.

And now for the interview:

Hi, Annie and welcome to My Written Romance!

Can you give us the Cliff’s Notes version of what your book is about?

Free-spirited sex therapist Brianna Ballantine has four days to find a fiancé so she can inherit her birth mother’s Italian villa. Commitment is not on the agenda. Writing her sex therapy book and signing legal papers are. And once all is said and done, she’ll return home to Scotland.

For Aussie finance guru Tomas Richards, relationships have been a bad investment—give him stocks and shares any day. When Tomas offers a marriage of convenience to help Brianna secure her inheritance, the sizzle between the sheets promises an affair to remember, despite family complications at every turn.

But Tom must convince Brianna to stay, and make this Italian affair a lifelong commitment.

What is it that you love about this book, and in particular your hero and heroine?

I love that I still cry every time I read this book. I cry at the sad parts and I cry at the happy resolution at the end. Amy Andrews who read it and wrote the cover quote said it will make readers “laugh. cry and sigh”.

Brianna is cool, funny and sexy, as well as being intelligent, independent yet vulnerable. I loved developing her character. Stuffy, stitched-up, list-making Tom has finally decided to make some changes in his life, the first being to fly to Lipari Island, off the Amalfi Coast. His purchase of his aunt’s marina is just the financial and physical challenge he’s looking for. But things go awry and both Tom and Brianna are in for some surprises.

What is your favourite part of the writing process? Is it creating characters, world-building or is it typing The End?

I love coming up with the idea for the story. And then my characters do the rest…they take me places I don’t expect! In Italian Affair, Tom did things I had not planned or anticipated, and it made the writing so much fun. Many of the reviews have mentioned the laughter in the book and how much they enjoyed the development of Tom’s character.

Who is your writing superhero – the author or writer who inspires your own work? Why?

Nora Roberts. I am in awe at the number of books she has written and how her books can engage me from the very first sentence.

She is so skilled at conveying emotion and immersing the reader in the story. I aspire to those skills!

Outside of writing, what do you do to relax?

I love the ocean. I walk the beach…and I garden. I am lucky to live in a climate where I can do both all year round.

What’s next for you?

I am currently in edits for the third book of this series – Outback Affair,  a romantic suspense called Dangerous Desire, and a sweet romance called Worth the Wait. I am also writing a time slip story about a rock star and a seventies music festival, which I am loving. (Hot Rock) And I also  have Book 2 and 3 in the sweet Half Moon Bay series to write before the end of the year.

Thank you so much, Annie for taking the time to be a guest on My Written Romance, and for being my first ever author interview. The very best of luck to you for the continued success of Italian Affair, and of course with all your other books. I can’t wait to see what you come up with for Alex in Outback Affair.

Before we finish, indulge me a little. I just thought you should know Annie donated all of the royalties from the pre-orders of Italian Affair to the Kim Walters Choice Program, in the memory of her cousin who passed away earlier this year from breast cancer. The Kim Walters Choices Program’s philosophy is to provide appropriate support and information to all women, men and their families affected by breast and gynaecological cancers with respect for their emotional, social and intellectual needs. You can read more about this wonderful organisation here.

Here’s a little bit about Annie Seaton:

Annie lives with her husband, and ‘Bob’ the dog and two white cats in a house next to the beach on the east coast of Australia. She sits in her writing chair, gazing at the ocean and writing stories.  Their two children are grown and married and she loves spending time gardening, walking on the beach and spoiling her two grandchildren. She has always been fascinated by all things romantic and has found her niche in life writing romance novels, ranging from contemporary to paranormal with a foray into steampunk!

Her debut full length novel, Holiday Affair, a contemporary romance set in the South Pacific was released as part of Entangled Publishing’s Indulgence line in March 2012 and has been a best seller on both Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The sequel Italian Affair will be released in June 2013, followed shortly after by Outback Affair. Annie has more books being released in 2013 with Entangled Publishing in the Bliss, Entangled Suspense and Covet imprints.
