When it comes to the Texas Cattleman's Club, what a rancher wants, a rancher gets…
Nothing's come easy to Chance McDaniel since his best friend betrayed him. And when the deception explodes into a Texas-sized scandal, his best friend's sister, Gabriella del Toro, shows up to pick up the pieces. Now Chance's luck is about to change. He wants this innocent beauty, and seducing her has become his top priority.
Gabriella's sheltered upbringing has always left her wanting more. Now, with this rich rancher, she sees a chance to break free. But will the web of deception her family has woven ensnare her yet again?
This post was meant to go up yesterday, however due to a challenging toddler and an unscheduled glass of wine, I missed my chance to put it up. Seeing as it is still March 20 somewhere else in the world (thank you Americas), I thought I’d post it now.
Our final book for both the Clearing the Backlog Challenge and Birthday Thursday is Sarah M. Anderson’s February 2014 release from Harlequin Desire, Falling for Her Soldier.
As with the other posts, I want to give one of my lovely readers, a digital copy of this book. So leave a comment, and good luck!
Here are my thoughts on What a Rancher Wants:
I’ve only recently discovered Sarah M. Anderson as a writer, through her Bolton Brothers series (which I thoroughly enjoyed). When she forwarded me this for review, I was definitely keen. It’s the ninth in the ongoing Texas Cattleman’s Club: The Missing Mogul series, but I think you could happily read this as a standalone.
What a Rancher Wants is a great afternoon read – hot cowboys and mystery, with a sweet romance to top off the sundae!
This is Chance and Gabriella’s story. Chance was Alex’s friend – but has been dismayed to learn of the secrets Alex’s kept and is still being considered a suspect in his disappearance. Gabriella is Alex’s sister, who’s been ‘protected’ and almost hidden from the world at large by her wealthy Mexican father.
I really enjoyed these two as a couple and as individuals as well. Even though Gabriella has led a ridiculously sheltered life, I loved that she wasn’t made out to be some wilting social flower who had no ambitions or dreams of her own. Chance, sure he had that alpha cowboy vibe going on – wouldn’t be a Desire hero if he didn’t – but he has a kind heart and blessedly avoided being Mr Pushypants when it came to Gabriella. While their relationship didn’t fire up until later, the slow burn worked in this instance. Both Gabriella and Chance have issues with trust and the truth, and I like that they were given the chance to work their way through them a bit before “hopping on board” so to speak.
I must confess that I haven’t read much from the Texas Cattleman’s Club continuity and this is the first of the Missing Mogul books I have read. The mystery surrounding Alex/Alejandro and his disappearance was very well done in this installment, and I am now very keen to see the early development of this mystery and also Alex’s own story when it is released.
P.S. I had to have a little chuckle to myself at the thought of Joaquin on a gigantic mule! That would be a sight to behold.
