Hey there, Friday! I’ve been waiting for you all week long.
It’s time once again for Favourite Things Friday. In today’s instalment, there is a beautiful tropical island, fab eatery, sexy voice and some beautiful words.
Koh Lipe, Thailand
We were planning a trip to Langkawi, so I was looking on the Wikitravel page. It made mention of this little island called Koh Lipe, over the border in Thailand, and as we had a few days to spare, we decided to throw caution to the wind and book ourselves in.
Holy freakin’ OMG! I am so glad we did. There are no cars (the island is barely a few kilometres long) and the only means of transport are by foot or small motorbike.
You can snorkel right off the beach, and at the place we stayed, there was a beach-front bar with a view to die for. The photo on the left was one I took from my very comfy chair at said bar. Oh, and the food was incredible! 30 baht for a massive plate of mango – the hubby was pleased with that.
I’d love to go back there, hole up for a few weeks and just do some hard-core relaxing.
It would be a pretty good spot to write without distraction, as well!
Stepho’s Greek Taverna in Vancouver, BC
The hubby and I spent a year living and working in Vancouver from 2003 to 2004, and around the corner from our apartment was this particular Greek restaurant. Come dinner time, and weekends, people would be lining up for the length of the block to get a table. Seriously, people would line up for an hour or more to get into this place on a Saturday night.
One visit, and we were hooked.
Never did we have a bad meal there – we may have left there pretty much every time with a take-away container, and the tzatziki was deliciously potent in its garlic-ness, but it was always good.
I do miss going around there, even a decade on. I only hope that if I ever go back, it will still be there and still be good.
The opening lines from Alison Stuart’s Lord Somerton’s Heir
Reading these lines, it was just so easy to imagine the visual:
In the light of the lanterns held up by the stablehands, the glossy hide of the great, black horse reflected fire. The animal shivered, breaking the fire into golden sparks. …
I loved the book, as you’d know from my review. However, it was such a strong opening, that it has stuck with me – and remains one of my favourites.
Wrecking Ball – the cover version by Australian singer Paul Dempsey
I’m not a fan of Miss Cyrus – too much faffing about in her undies for my liking. However, her song, Wrecking Ball is actually pretty good. Rosie from Triple M Melbourne’s Hot Breakfast morning show was talking one morning about seeing Paul Dempsey (from Something for Kate fame) do a cover on one of the other shows on the station. Then they played it. OMG – it shoots out rainbows of awesome. Enjoy! (oh, and how sexy is that voice?)
There goes this instalment of Favourite Things Friday. Hope you enjoyed it!
As always, my lovely readers, have a wonderful day and a brilliant weekend!!
