For years Tyler has longed, lusted and burned for the girl who saved his life. He’ll do anything to have her — including hiring her as his bodyguard. But when the girl of his dreams turns out to have a dark streak he never could have imagined, he’ll need more in his seductive arsenal than sweet talk — he’ll have to find out just how far he’s prepared to go to get her.
Brooke has been through the kind of hell that doesn't make it into most people’s nightmares. She’s strong, she’s fierce and she believes the only place any man belongs in her life is wedged under the toe of her shoe. Ty is the one man to get under her skin and send her mindless with desire. He’s also a spanner in her life that could undo everything she's worked for.
She wants him — but can a man like Ty handle the kind of fantasies she has in mind?
First off, there is a potential trigger in For His Protection – Brooke, the heroine, has been living with the after-effects of a violent & life-altering assault. It is very much crucial to the progression of the story, and Amber A. Bardan has done a great job of weaving this in. But, if this sort of thing triggers the bad for you, consider this forewarning.
That being said, For His Protection is a damn good book, and well worth picking up.
Here are my thoughts on For His Protection:
The connection that was forged between Brooke and Tyler five years earlier is immediately obvious, and incredibly hot, despite Brooke’s justifiable reservations. She has been through some hard-core pain in the intervening half-decade, and Tyler just wants to help her feel again – to rediscover herself.
Brooke and Tyler are well-developed and realistic characters, and it was so easy to believe in them as a couple. There are some darker moments, for sure, however this is interspersed with smart, witty dialogue and super-hot sexytimes. I loved that the sexytimes were hot and dirty, and considering the past of the characters, real and raw.
During the latter half of the book, Brooke’s past rears its head. I really appreciated how Amber constructed this and how the resolution came about.
As this is book 2 in the series, it is a good idea to read the first, For Her Protection, before picking this one up. Things will make more sense.
All in all, an excellent sophomore offering from the pen of a fabulous new voice in erotic romance!
