No matter where, no matter when, no matter what.

Almost twenty years ago, on a beautiful coastal cliff, Juliette Cole, Anna Kendall and Sera Di Maggio linked pinkies and made a vow to be there for each other no matter what might happen in their lives.

Now Juliette is calling in the promise — terminally ill, she wants her two friends to come back to Ellesmere to help her through her last summer. The trouble is Anna and Sera haven’t spoken in years, and Anna hasn’t returned home since she and her mother were run out of town in disgrace.

But Anna and Sera do have one thing in common: they want Juliette to fight her cancer by any means possible. When they realise the only way may be to find a man called Noah, they reluctantly agree to put aside their differences and search for him.

But, as Anna and Sera discover, sometimes facing the past is the best way to face the future, and perhaps the only way they will find the strength for their last summer with Juliette.

It’s not very often that I am short of a word to describe how I feel about something. However rare they are, moments arrive where my internal thesaurus fails me.

When did it last happen? When I read Emily Madden’s debut novel from Harlequin MIRA, Summers with Juliette. It simply took my breath away. These were the images I had to use to describe how I felt about this:

Let’s get back to what I thought of Summers with Juliette…

Summers with Juliette was just incredible – deeply emotional, thoroughly heartwarming, a beautiful exploration of friendship, forgiveness and finding love. This may have been Emily Madden’s first novel, however she writes in such a way that you find it hard to believe there aren’t 20 more titles sitting on her backlist waiting for you to discover. I cannot wait to see what she has up her sleeve for us in the future.

Friendship is such a powerful thing, to have people in your life that you can call upon to bring you support, love, solace and a much-needed laugh. Even though the three women in this story, Juliette, Anna and Sera, haven’t been together in years, and some threads in certain relationships are frayed, the strength of their connection brings them back together when they need it. I love that their friendship wasn’t perfect – there were ups and downs, fights and making up – and I could totally imagine these three actually being friends.

There are some lovely romantic threads woven through the stories of Juliette, Anna and Sera. Love has a way of finding you when you are not expecting it, and that is definitely the case with these girls. Sure, like with any romance, things can get a little wobbly, but I can guarantee you that you will be more than pleased with the heroes of this tale.

I am not going to give too much away about how things move along and eventually resolve themselves, because that would be spoiling the utter joy of reading it.

However, I will tell you this: there are moments you will laugh out loud, moments you will be super teary, there are characters you will adore, and characters you will cheer when they get their comeuppance, but most of all, you will be left with this feeling:
